Old American Ragtime by the G Burns Jug Band’s

Old American Ragtime by the G Burns Jug Band’s

The G Burns Jug Band  brings you back to old America of 20s and 30s, to the  string bands, the heavy fiddle music and  blues songs from women like Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith. Expect happy up-tempo traditional songs with bluegrass, roots and folk influences of this group.

“Music with an intensity and authenticity rarely heard today: urban Blues, mountain fiddle, and popular music of the nineteen-twenties and thirties.”

This music is very enjoyable and unique for the multiple instruments. The mixed vocals make the band able to perform a whole lot of song in a different style and with different soul. This is  vintage American modern music at his best if you ask me.

Country blues and Ragtime : Jug band The Dumpy Jug Bumpers

On their website you will read that: “The Dumpy Jug Bumpers are a string band that brings back the reckless sounds of country blues, ragtime, and jug band music from the era of shellac 78’s”. These Minnesota musicians continu the legacy of artist in the tradition of ragtime and jug bands. But above all The Dumpy Jug Bumpers  show you the fun these guys get from playing ragtime and blues from the pre-war era.

Street corner Blues from the 20s and 30s

I bet that the The Dumpy Jug Bumpers would do the same thing a hundred years ago like they do now.  The view of a waterfront with a fishingboat. the Jug Bumpers sit in it and bring the fine melodic tunes of the “Milwaukee Blues” which is a very cheerful song.  There is no better way to play some blues I think. That is what the Jug Bumpers do best!

The Jug Bumpers started playing in the Twin Cities and surrounding area in 2012, they tell us on their website. In the next few years they have seen a whole lot of barns, pubs, juke joints and festivals.

Recently the Dumpy Jug Bumpers released their full length debut album  Dumpin’ at the Savoy Which contains song from the 1920s and 1930s blues scene.

Pure music of Blind Boy Chocolate & The Milk Sheiks

Blind Boy Chocolate & The Milk Sheiks is a band that plays blues, ragtime, jazz or bluegrass in the style of the jug bands of the early twentieth century. These Guys started in the summer of 2009 as a three piece band with Dwight Hawkins, Nicholas Marshall and Antone Costa primarily featuring the wood saw, mandolin and guitar respectively.

The love for old blues, jazz and ragtime brought these guys together, their love for music would soon be turned into performing together. A show of these guys, wherever it is in your local pub or on the streets is full of good energy swinging rhythm and please focus on the wood saw which adds a pervasive melody.

After a half a year of heavy busking, the band gained momentum and began to play inside venues as well as on the sidewalk. Since then, Alex Brady has come into the ranks on the gut bucket bass, though other members have come in and out of the band as time and circumstances permitted.
